Bowen Therapy, or the Bowen Technique
Bowen is a non-invasive, complementary therapy. It targets certain points on the body with gentle rolling movements to help it balance, repair and reset itself.
Developed in the 1950s by Tom Bowen, this therapy is reported to help with a number of conditions and can address symptoms of stress and anxiety. It is important to note that Bowen therapy focuses on the whole person, not just the condition. Your first Bowen treatment is a “reboot” of your system which enables the body’s different programs to reset and align.
The Bowen therapist will know a number of movements that affect certain areas of the body. The treatment helps to stimulate meridian points (also used in acupuncture), which are pathways for energy flow in the body. Bowen Therapy can be used to treat:
- Low back pain and sciatica
- Chronic fatigue
- Ear infections
- Migraines and headaches
- Stress, anxiety and depression
- Neck, jaw, shoulder and elbow pain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Bed wetting
- Kidney and urinary system issues
